Humanitarian Highlight 05.08.25
Credit unions don’t just serve—they lead. Across the country, CU Eco-Warriors are stepping up for the planet and their communities. From cleaning coastlines to teaching kids about money, they prove that small efforts lead to a big impact. These credit unions protect nature, build connections, and inspire the next generation. In this week’s #humanitarianhighlight, we follow CUs that making their neighborhoods better, greener places to live.
Unitus Community Credit Union
Unitus Community Credit Union hosted its first-ever Earth Day Celebration. Together with partners like The Wetlands Conservancy, they created an eco-adventure full of heart. Volunteers explored nature, learned about native plants, and shared sustainability plans for the future. Students showed how to upcycle, maintain bikes, and reduce household waste. Their five-acre wetlands turned into a living classroom. These CU Eco-Warriors have already saved over 1.8 million sheets of paper—and they’re just getting started.
Millbury Federal Credit Union
Millbury FCU brought budgeting games to Gates Lane Elementary students. The kids learned the value of coins and the difference between wants and needs. Smiles lit up the classroom as students made smart spending choices in real time. Financial literacy builds responsible future citizens and thoughtful environmental stewards. These CU Eco-Warriors planted knowledge and confidence in every young learner that day. Money lessons can change lives and even protect the planet.
Washington Trust
Washington Trust has cleaned up Rhode Island for years—and they’re not slowing down. Staff, friends, and families rolled up their sleeves for Earth Day community cleanups. Together, they picked up litter, beautified parks, and protected local coastlines. Their bright T-shirts and big hearts could be seen across the Ocean State. These CU Eco-Warriors proved you don’t need superpowers to save the planet. Just a trash bag, some teamwork, and love for where you live.
DuTrac Community Credit Union
DuTrac CU celebrated Earth Day by heading outdoors and getting to work. They built and stained picnic tables for Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah. The tables welcome visitors and create a gathering space in a stunning natural setting. Seed Savers protects heirloom seeds and preserves plant biodiversity. They didn’t just build tables—they built community and environmental harmony.
Greater Nevada Credit Union
Greater Nevada CU dove into icy waters with mythical style. As Silver Sponsor of the 2025 Polar Plunge, they raised funds for Special Olympics Nevada. Dragons, mermaids, and fairies splashed into Lake Tahoe with laughter and purpose. These plungers proved that doing good can be seriously fun (and seriously cold).
Transcend Credit Union
Transcend CU joined the Louisville Metro Police at their Annual Easter Egg Hunt. They handed out treats, connected with families, and brightened a spring Saturday. This wasn’t just candy—it was connection, joy, and community building. Their presence showed love in action and support for local families. Sometimes, the greenest things grow from kindness.
