In this week’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors roundup, we are thrilled to spotlight inspiring acts of philanthropy—from surprising local teachers with classroom supplies and collecting brand-new shoes to stocking food pantries and championing family safety events—showing how credit unions are constantly going above and beyond to support their neighborhoods as the new school year gets underway.
Dirigo Federal Credit Union
When Dirigo Federal Credit Union invited its members and local residents to nominate five standout Maine educators, the response completely overwhelmed expectations. Instead of capping the recognition at five individuals, the community’s outpouring of stories highlighted 99 different teachers from across the state, showcasing classrooms where educators constantly go above and beyond. To honor that level of dedication, Dirigo FCU expanded its initiative to surprise nine local teachers with $500 each toward their Amazon Wish List classroom supplies. It’s a wonderful example of a financial cooperative stepping up to support the educators who shape the future of their local communities.
Park City Credit Union
Park City Credit Union team members recently made a splash—literally—for a wonderful local cause by participating in a fundraising event alongside Merrill Dunkin to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin. Sportingly stepping up for a turn in the dunk tank, the team helped drive community engagement and donations for Special Olympics athletes. It’s a fantastic illustration of how credit union staff roll up their sleeves and have a little fun while supporting vital community organizations.
Mohave Community Federal Credit Union
To ensure local students head back to the classroom with confidence, Mohave Community Federal Credit Union is running an ongoing shoe drive through September 30. Collecting brand-new footwear for children across all grade levels from kindergarten through high school, MCFCU invites members and local residents to drop off donations directly in their lobby. It’s a wonderful, hands-on way for a credit union to step in and support families, making sure every child has what they need to start the school year on the right foot.
First Heritage Federal Credit Union
First Heritage Federal Credit Union recently joined in on the fun and community connection at the 40th Annual Chemung County Strong Kids Safe Kids event. Designed to connect families with vital local resources and safety education, the weekend celebration featured engaging activities where parents and children could learn side by side. It is a fantastic example of a credit union showing up to champion family well-being and strengthen community bonds right where they live.
Fox Communities Credit Union
Teaming up with The Family Radio Network, Fox Communities Credit Union recently launched a community PB&J Drive to help stock local food pantry shelves just as the school year kicks off. Inviting members and residents to drop off peanut butter and jelly donations at any Fox location through the end of the month, the credit union is ensuring that local families have reliable access to simple, nutritious meal staples. It’s a wonderful community-driven effort that highlights how financial cooperatives tackle hunger close to home.
Remington Federal Credit Union
Thanks to the incredible generosity of its members, Remington Federal Credit Union recently completed a successful school supply collection drive to help local children start the academic year prepared. By rallying the community to gather essential classroom tools, Remington FCU ensured that students head back to school with the supplies they need to succeed.
