How Credit Unions Are Uplifting Communities Nationwide

Humanitarian Highlight 10.29.26

Whether preparing comforting meals for families during trying times, doubling employee donations to support local first responders, supplying classrooms with thousands of books, or stepping away from desks for company-wide days of service, credit unions consistently demonstrate that community care is a year-round commitment. In this week’s Humanitarian Highlights edition, we spotlight financial cooperatives nationwide turning the “people helping people” philosophy into tangible local action.

Cincinnati Ohio Police Federal Credit Union

Rolling up their sleeves to provide comfort close to home, team members from Cincinnati Ohio Police Federal Credit Union recently volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House at Cincinnati Children’s as part of the Taste of Hope program. Staff members spent the evening prepping and cooking meals, helping ease the burden for families staying close by while their children receive vital medical care.

Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union

Turning casual Fridays into community impact, Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union team members participate in a regular dress-down fundraiser supporting local initiatives, with the credit union matching every dollar raised to double the contribution. Team member Sierra recently presented the proceeds from this ongoing effort to the Canaan Fire Department, providing essential backing for local emergency personnel.

Arrowhead Credit Union

Demonstrating how everyday choices blossom into major community support, Arrowhead Credit Union team members take members behind the scenes of their ArrowHeart initiative. Through programs like Brigitte’s Closet at the ArrowHeart Suite, staff unbox, sort, and organize donated supplies for Fontana Unified School District students, proving that collective generosity creates an unstoppable wave of positive change.

Community Resource Credit Union

Embracing a massive community-wide mission during their first company-wide day of service, “Powered by Purpose,” 163 Community Resource Credit Union team members stepped away from their desks to contribute 660 volunteer hours across nine local organizations. Volunteers cleaned up parks and coastlines, painted facilities, sorted donations, built family support kits, and assisted local animal shelters—partnering with groups like Baytown Habitat for Humanity, Mission Northeast, and Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center.

All In Credit Union

Proving that small, everyday choices can generate life-changing support, All In Credit Union members raised an incredible $34,020 for the American Cancer Society through the credit union’s signature Pink Debit Card program. By contributing a $5 annual donation with their card choice, members turned a simple banking preference into a powerful engine for cancer research and community health support.

Security Service Federal Credit Union

Fostering a love for reading and supporting local education, Security Service Federal Credit Union volunteers recently visited the San Antonio ISD Book Buddies Warehouse. Team members sorted and categorized thousands of donated books by grade level, ensuring that students across the district receive engaging, age-appropriate reading materials to empower their academic journey all year long.
