Humanitarian Highlight 11.05.26

From expressing profound gratitude to military veterans and walking side-by-side for mental health awareness to securing housing stability funds, gathering winter warmth gear, and backing neighborhood grassroots groups, credit unions continue to prove that cooperative banking is built on active compassion. In this week’s Humanitarian Highlight edition, we explore how credit financial institutions nationwide are turning the “people helping people” ethos into powerful local action.

Omaha Federal Credit Union

Wrapping up its successful 6th annual “Veterans Day Baskets for Vets” campaign, Omaha Federal Credit Union united community partners—including the Blair VFW posts alongside the Veterans Service Offices of Washington, Douglas, and Sarpy counties—to brighten the lives of local service members. Thanks to generous member contributions and dedicated volunteer coordination led by VP of Marketing Julie Gasper, the credit union assembled thoughtful goodie bags filled with snacks, notes of appreciation, and daily essentials, delivering joy and recognition to over 250 veterans residing across eight area retirement communities.

EFCU Financial Federal Credit Union

Stepping up to support mental health advocacy and suicide prevention, EFCU Financial team members proudly participated in the Greater Baton Rouge “Out of the Darkness Walk,” hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. By joining the walk, staff members honored loved ones lost, stood alongside individuals experiencing struggles, and helped reinforce a vital message: in our communities, no one has to walk alone.

Monroe Community Credit Union

Expanding pathways to long-term housing stability, Monroe Community Credit Union partnered with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis to deliver a combined $75,000 contribution to the Monroe County Opportunity Program (MCOP). This substantial funding provides critical rental assistance to eligible local families and supports educational resources designed to build secure financial futures and strengthen local neighborhoods.

Co-op Credit Union

Ensuring that local children stay warm when temperatures drop, Co-op Credit Union launched its annual winter gear drive. Inviting members and neighbors to drop off brand-new or handcrafted hats, mittens, and winter essentials at any CCU lobby location through November 30, the credit union is rallying the community to spread warmth and comfort to youth in need this season.

Wright-Patt Credit Union

Demonstrating that community impact is woven into everyday operations, Wright-Patt Credit Union team members regularly utilize dedicated “Impact Hours” to volunteer with local organizations and causes. By dedicating their time and talents directly to neighborhood initiatives, WPCU staff continue to demonstrate what “Banking Done Wright” truly means in daily practice.

KEMBA Indianapolis Credit Union

Investing in grassroots neighborhood support, KEMBA Indianapolis Credit Union recently met with local advocates from the Irvington Community Action Network (ICAN) to present a $500 contribution. This donation directly supports ICAN’s ongoing community-building efforts, helping fund local programs that uplift residents and foster positive change right where members live and work.
