Humanitarian Highlight 07.23.26
Thursday is Humanitarian day and so we look at classroom champions helping young minds become great adults. Many children dread returning back to school, but with a great community and helpful credit union staff it is easier for many of these children to return in style and confidence.
Freedom Federal Credit Union
Freedom Federal CU had its inaugural Bright Beginnings Grant Program where they awarded $8,000 in grants to seven educators in their community. The goal of the program is to support early childhood educators and the innovative initiatives that will help those in the early stages of education. The ideas awarded were designed to better assist the education of young leaners. They held a check presentation on June 10th, along with representatives of other partners in the program.
Maui County Federal Credit Union
Maui County FCU has launched their Adopt-a-Backpack school supply drive to assist the young in need within their community. The credit union has partnered with The Salvation Army to assist the young students in their community be better prepared for this school year. The drive recently ended and they collected many school supplies as well as monetary contributions.
Virginia Credit Union
Virginia CU has been running a multiyear commitment to Goodwill Industries of the Valleys and supporting The Excel Center, the first adult high school in the Commonwealth. VACU has now donated $90,000 for this program and shows their support for the education and workforce in their community. This is the third year since Member One FCU first began this donation project, and it has continued since the August 2024 merger. In fact, the donations have been going up over the years and they will continue to donate until 2028.
Tidemark Federal Credit Union
Tidemark FCU, through their Tidemark Foundation, awarded their scholarship to some local students in their community. The Charles Gleason, Jr. Scholarship was named for a retired vice chairman of the credit union and he was dedicated to education and the opportunities it affords. Congratulations to all those awarded!
Delta Community Credit Union
Delta Community CU has launched a $150,000 grant program for local nonprofits in Atlanta. They are awarding ten $15,000 grants from their 2027 Philanthropic Fund to support services for local families and youth. This replaces their previous donation model and seek to fund those nonprofits that are improving financial well-being for those in the community especially the physical and financial health of children and young adults. In the past 13 years of this program they have donated around $1.4 million to more than 260 organizations.
Trumark Financial Credit Union
Trumark Financial CU has shown their supports for young students by awarding their 2026 Difference Maker scholarships. The three awards were not just based on grades, but also the service they have provided to making a difference in their communities. This is an annual program and it celebrates that extra service the students to help their community. The selection was based on the impact, reach, and the lasting potential from their actions. The students were not the only ones granted donations as Trumark also awarded $350 to each of the local nonprofits that had partnered with the top 10 finalists.
