Humanitarian Highlight 07.09.26
As we get past our big 250th celebration, we now look at so many great humanitarians in our industry. We have scholarships, and grants to help teens in the community, as well as many other great deeds! So let’s look at these summer scholars and celebrations by credit union humanitarians!
The County Federal Credit Union
The County FCU is celebrating its 70th anniversary by helping their community. The credit union recently launched their Community Mini-Grant initiative that seeks to provide mini-grants to select nonprofits in their region. The Well of Mars Hill is a great cause in Maine that provides a safe haven for local teens that offers food, shelter, and other support to help the young in need. This assistance is being used for two of their new initiatives; a development program for youth employment, and a community food pantry. The pantry will be serving the local community and the employment programs seeks to help The Well’s café operations while giving the teens real-world experience to aid in their futures.
Connexus Credit Union
Connexus CU is collecting canned food donations to support their Connexus Cares program. The donations will be used to assist their local food pantries which is still an issue across the nation. They have a goal of collecting at least 250 items. They are accepting donations at select Connexus branches and they are looking for canned foods and other shelf-stable goods. It will be running thorough July.
Royal Credit Union
Royal CU launched a brand-new program to help small businesses in their community. The plan is to award $3,000 grant to a local small business and we are looking forward to seeing who gets awarded the grant in November. They are looking for pre-launch, startup, or businesses that were established in the last three years. This grant can be very helpful for any small business and we hope to see more such programs in other communities. These are the economic drivers that create jobs and create an impact on the communities.
OnPoint Community Credit Union
OnPoint Community CU has now awarded more than $500k to 59 nonprofits across Oregon and Washington. The funding was a part of their bi-annual Community Grants and Giving program. It is supporting programs across a wide array of needs from education, food security, and even summer camps for underserved children. And they are still looking to award more grants through the year!
American Eagle Financial Credit Union
American Eagle Financial CU is working with ReadyCT and Pathways Academy to award some scholarships. They recently awarded two $5,000 scholarships to local residents to aid in their educational goals. This was their second annual NextGen Leaders Scholarship Program that seeks to challenge high school seniors to use original social media content on financial well-being and community impact. The participants had a week to create and share original content that would engage their peers and spark discourse on money management and financial empowerment. What a creative and fun way to run a scholarship program.
Achieva Credit Union
Achieva CU is celebrating 90 years of being there for their community, and to really celebrate they are donating $1 million dollars to St. Petersburg College and their Pathway to Better Centennial Campaign. The credit union was started by seven Pinellas County teachers who were unable to secure a loan through a local bank. It started with just $99.25 and some office space provided by St. Petersburg Junior College. It now serves more than 214,000 members and has $3.1 billion in assets providing care through 26 branches across Florida.
