Humanitarian Highlight 4.23.26
As we move further into the season of renewal, it is inspiring to see how local organizations are planting the seeds for a better tomorrow. This week’s roundup highlights the incredible reach of credit union generosity, stretching from local neighborhoods to global initiatives. We are seeing a powerful trend of Growth through Giving as institutions step up to provide critical support for military families and life-saving medical equipment. From funding specialized NICU and pediatric ambulances to expanding clean water access across the globe, these efforts demonstrate a profound commitment to human welfare. Join us as we explore these stories of dedication and the lasting impact they have on communities everywhere.
Navy Federal Credit Union
Until the end of May you can drop off donations at one of 24 San Diego County Navy Federal branches to help their Bags for the Brave 2026 campaign. This collaboration with Navy FCU, CBS 8 and Support The Enlisted Project (S.T.E.P.) is to help collect personal care items for military families in San Diego County. They will then have an event to distribute the donations on June 6, 2026. You can also see other ways in which Navy Federal is honoring Military Appreciation Month.
Georgia’s Own Credit Union
Recently Georgia’s Own CU helped support Phoebe Putney Hospital in purchasing a second NICU/pediatric ambulance to help them expand access to critical pediatric care. This will help the community and families in the Albany area. They raised the $5,500 with their annual “We Heart Our Kids” campaign that they hold every February. This member-driven fundraiser benefits children’s hospitals across the credit union’s footprint.
BluPeak Credit Union
BluPeak has teamed up with Clean Water Foundation, and Water.org to help expand access to clean water for those in need. Through their BluPeak Foundation they have launched a dollar-for-dollar matching campaign to support the mission of Water.org. The campaign is to match every donation up to $100,000 and that will mean a lot for this organization. They are collecting until June 30, 2026. Water is one of the most necessary things for our survival and so this is a very important cause.
Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union
Great Lakes FCU ran their employee Dress Down Dollars program to raise funds for local non-profits. They were able to collect a total of $1,500 and chose three charities to support. Delta Animal Shelter, Tri-County Safe Harbor and the U.P. Foster Closet were the three lucky non-profit organizations. The program allows the staff of GLFFCU to make small donation through the year for the opportunity to come to work in causal dress on designated days. These contributions are then used for important charities in their community.
Frontier Credit Union
Frontier CU donated $2,500 to the South Fremont Senior Center to begin their partnership in supporting the organization. The organization helps ensure the elderly in their community get meals and other necessary needs as well as entertainment. The credit union has shifted how they engage with the community and this is how they start that shift. Each branch will be selecting one local charity to support through the year.
First Florida Credit Union
We also came across an awesome collaboration between First Florida CU and WCTV in Florida as they have a segment called “Something Good”. This looks to be similar to our Humanitarian Highlights, but not credit union centric as our feature is. They help put the spotlight on those helping their community and we totally get how the message is as important as the donations. These kinds of articles and stories help motivate others to donate and help their communities! Some recent articles they had were about helping Chiles High School, money raised for Second Harvest, the nonprofit Boys Town North Florida, and so much more!
