Humanitarian Highlight 03.26.26

So many communities in bloom as the weather shifts and the humanitarians in credit unions continue to assist their communities. We have some more scholarships, blood drives, donations for kids and food pantries, and so many humanitarian highlights in the credit union movement.

Spirit Financial Credit Union

Spirit Financial CU has announced their Thomas Parsons Memorial Scholarships. They are awarding $3,000 to two winners to assist in their education goals. The deadline recently passed and so now we shall see who wins those prizes.

Members 1st Credit Union

Recently we saw that Members 1st CU hosted their Q1 Donation Drive to help the St. Louis Children’s Hospital to cross off their wish list. We don’t know if they got everything and more, but we hear the response was incredible as their members and staff came together to deliver a car full of donations.

Fortera Federal Credit Union

There are many communities in desperate need of blood and plasma donations, so Fortera CU will be holding a community blood drive in early April. It is often said that every donation can save up to 3 lives, so it is important to help our hospitals stay stocked with a healthy supply. There will also be a $100 gift card drawing for those who participate.

Currently the U.S is experiencing a severe blood shortage and the American Red Cross recently reported a 35% drop in the early 2026 supply. This limits hospitals to less than a day’s inventory of crucial typs like O-Negative. This is dangerous for those in need for cancer treatments and emergency surgeries and seems to be fueled due declining donor numbers, inclement weather, and high flu rates. If you can give, see where you can give.

Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union

Hurricane Creek FCU presented a $5000 donation to Salem Elementary’s Destination Imagination team as they prepared to compete at Global Finals in Kansas City. They placed 1st in the Arkansas State Tournament to get the Renaissance Award.

evergreenDIRECT Credit Union

Earlier this year we saw eDCU staff assembled 300 warming kits and food bags for their community in need. The Thurston County’s Resource Hub’s outreach was able to take these and have them distributed to those in need. They are also wrapping up their scholarship applications for 2026!

First Missouri Credit Union

First Missouri CU donated to the Feed My People charity using donations from their members taken at their annual meeting. This long-standing charity has been important to their community and it shows how First Missouri CU is important as well.
