Humanitarian Highlight 01.08.26
It is a new year and new donations are already being made by the humanitarians we are highlighting. Every Thursday, we feature a wonderful collection of credit unions that help their members and the community. We have a batch of credit unions collecting for children, those in need of a meal, and to promote the heritage of their members.
MERCO Credit Union
Merco CU was there for the Merced Hmong New Year celebration to help support their community and members. This annual event is a lot of fun and a great cause for the people of Merced. The annual event is a great cause to showcase the cultural heritage of the Hmong Community. For those unaware, the Hmong people are those originally from Laos, China, Vietnam, and Thailand who were recruited by the CIA to fight the Vietnam War and left the region to flee from the communists who took over Laos in the 70s.
Firestone Federal Credit Union
Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this past October was no different. Firestone FCU, like many credit unions, was there to support this cause. During October, they wore pink and collected items to help local organizations that were supporting those going through breast cancer treatments.
Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union
In November, we saw Lisbon Community FCU help collect over 750 lbs. of food. These last months have been very hard on so many who are trying to feed their families, so these drives are an essential lifeline to them. Way to go, Lisbon Community!
InFirst Federal Credit Union
InFirst FCU had a lot going on last month for donations and charity. We saw they were giving out Nintendo Switch Lites as part of their Giving Thanks Sweepstakes, but that wasn’t the only thing going on for this credit union. They also supported the KG Love Thy Neighbor program and collected canned foods. They also collected donations for their Season of Giving 2025 program!
Government Employees Federal Credit Union
GEFCU has long been a supporter of the Central Texas Food Bank, as its Austin Empty Bowl Project is dedicated to helping families in Central Texas access a meal when needed. Not long ago, they supported the 29th annual Austin Empty Bowl Project event, and we are sure that many families in Texas were helped as a result of these great deeds.
Chemcel Federal Credit Union
This past month, we saw that the “elves” from Chemcel have been busy working with The Salvation Army, collecting many items, including toys, for all the good boys and girls in their Texas community. What a great way to take care of their community and members.
