Humanitarian Highlight 01.01.26

2025 has come and gone; now it is time for 2026. Cheers to a new year, cheers to our wonderful credit unions, and cheers to charity as we start the first Humanitarian Highlights of the new year. Tune in every week on Thursday as we round up a sample of great deeds done by the great CUs across America.

United Bay Community Credit Union

As Christmas approached, we noticed that United Bay Community CU was giving away free Christmas trees. We all know how many credit unions partner with the US Marines to run their Toys for Tots drives, but supplying the trees is going above and beyond. Some know that the necessities of survival may outweigh the cost of a tree, but the magic it produces for the children is immeasurable.

SRI Federal Credit Union

It’s never too soon to start looking at college funding for your children or yourself. We didn’t see the results, but we did see that SRI awarded 4 scholarships this year of $1,500 each to assist their members and community with their higher education. Be sure to let us know if your credit union is looking to award scholarships, and we will help spread the word on our social media.

TCT Federal Credit Union

Speaking of scholarships being awarded from credit unions, we did see that TCTFCU put a call out to high school seniors recently to start awarding some scholarships. The deadline is coming up soon, so be sure to check it out, and good luck!

Cottonwood Community Federal Credit Union

A few months ago, Cottonwood Community FCU held its Socktober event, where they were looking to collect socks to help those in need. We really appreciated their nod to Dr. Seuss in their campaign, and we know many in their community have appreciated the warmth and protection offered by these donations.

Bulldog Federal Credit Union

In November, we saw the 25th Annual HCC Turkey Trot go through Maryland with Bulldog FCU as a sponsor. There was walking, running, and a toy drive, with all the families enjoying the event. They even had some kids’ “Mashed Potato” races. All proceeds benefited the HCC Athletics and student-athlete scholarships, and you know how much we support those.

Sunwest Educational Credit Union

We looked at the things kids and students need, we looked at a credit union helping people get socks, and now we heap some praise on Sunwest Educational CU for helping gather and distribute shoes to students who need them every day.
