Humanitarian Highlight 10.02.25
The spirit of Community Matters is not just a slogan for credit unions; it is the philosophical bedrock upon which our entire industry is built. Unlike profit-driven financial institutions, the “people helping people” principle guides every decision, particularly when serving the local community. Each week, countless credit unions across the nation demonstrate this unwavering commitment, going above and beyond their core banking services to lift their neighbors, support vital local causes, and address pressing social needs. This edition of Humanitarian Highlights showcases the latest inspiring examples of credit union staff, leaders, and members uniting to make a tangible, powerful difference right where they live.
Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union
Randolph-Brooks demonstrates the importance of community to them, as they donated $25,100 to the United Way of Comal County. These funds are going to help many families and individuals of Comal County to get the assistance they need. This is not the only great thing these humanitarians have been working on lately; they also awarded $19,000 in scholarships to their Youth Ambassadors Program, and their volunteering with KSAT’s ‘Together for Texas Drive‘. We really want to shout out to their awesome “Stats at a Glance” page, where you can see the many great things they are doing for their community!
Golden 1 Credit Union
Golden 1 has invested more than $3.3 million in various organizations in Del Paso Heights as part of its promise to continue helping this under-resourced community of Sacramento. If you want to keep up with their many commitments to their community, be sure to check out their commitment page.
Security Service Federal Credit Union
Security Service helped support the Salvation Army’s 44th Annual Shoe-In For Kids event recently, and that provided brand new shoes to around 2,000 children who needed them. Many forget the basic needs that are hard to get for those without the financial means, but not Security Service. What a great way to help their community!
Lake Michigan Credit Union
Lake Michigan Credit Union is working with others to help families in need who can’t afford diapers. These programs are the best for young families. The Gold Coast Doulas continues to have diaper drives, as it has done for the past 10 years, because they are aware that around half of American families with young children need assistance for this.
Suncoast Credit Union
Suncoast CU donated $250,000 to the Tampa General Hospital Foundation, as part of their continued contributions for renovations at Muma Children’s Hospital. They now have the Suncoast Credit Union Classroom, and it will be home to the Cynthia Wells King School program. This program works with the Hillsborough County Public Schools and provides hospital-based education to their pediatric patients. Community means helping children continue in their education as hospitals help heal their wounds.
First Technology Federal Credit Union
Recently, the CEO of First Tech was asked how the proposed merger with DCU would affect their philanthropy, and they brought up how they are both very active in their charitable activities, including how they work with helping sick kids get out of the hospital to return to playgrounds and helping food banks. A few months ago, they were also one of many credit unions that helped raise $2.1 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
