Humanitarian Highlight 06.23.22

This week’s #HumanitarianHighlight features credit unions being stars in the community for their respective charitable deeds. Here are a few examples of credit unions that have shined by supporting nonprofits, awarding opportunities to students, and participating in community events.

The West Virginia Central Federal Credit

The West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union is an actual star – a Silver Star Sponsor – by gifting $10,000 to Building Bridges to Careers (BB2C), an organization that fosters career development in the community. The contribution will go toward BB2C’s efforts to provide career mentoring, job shadowing, and various other opportunities.

Maui County Federal Credit Union

Maui County Federal Credit Union is another shining star. They raised over $7,000 for the nonprofit, Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui. The organization provides aid to children who have been abused or neglected.

Soo Co-Op Credit Union

Soo Co-op Credit Union donated $25,000 to Soo Locks Children’s Museum, a nonprofit with a mission of supporting child education through interactive exhibits and activities. Due to the pandemic, the local Sault Ste. Marie’s project had been delayed for a few years. The museum is aiming to open in the summer of 2023.

TLC Community Credit Union

Another star in the community is TLC Community Credit Union, which donated 2,500 pounds of food to local food pantries. The credit union recently hosted community outreach events, where non-perishable food items were collected.

Advantage One Credit Union

Advantage One Credit Union awarded three students with $2,500 academic scholarships each. The students were selected based on their academic achievements and participation in community activities.

DuPage Credit Union

DuPage Credit Union held its ninth annual Drive, Drop, and Donate event that is part of their “We’ve Got Your Back” fundraiser. All of the funds raised went to help purchase school supplies for students. The credit union is accepting online donations through July 31, 2022, via www.dupagecu.com/community/weve-got-your-back/.
