Silver Linings in the Community

Humanitarian Highlight 06.02.22

This week’s #HumanitarianHighlight is on CUs being silver linings in the community. Here are a few credit unions doing their best to promote local prosperity.

Greenville Federal Credit Union

A silver lining is Greenville Federal Credit Union, which has awarded scholarships to six high school seniors. This year, they awarded $1,000 scholarships and one $5,000 scholarship as part of the new program established last November. Greenville FCU, like other credit unions, works to support local prosperity and education.

Coast Central Credit Union

Another silver lining in the community is Coast Central Credit Union, which gave out 19 scholarships for 2022. Recipients for the scholarships were chosen by their academic performance, impact in the community, and ability to overcome adversity. Winners will receive $5,000 to go toward their academic expenses.

Georgia’s Own Credit Union

Georgia’s Own Credit Union takes pride in spreading good fortune around the community.  It has awarded $1,000 scholarships to 20 winners of the 2022 Jump Start Scholarship. This program has been a silver lining to students since 2003.

University Credit Union

University Credit Union gifted $2,000 to student-run food pantries of the University of Maine at Augusta. The funding was split between the Community Cupboard and the Food For Thought pantry. The donation is part of the credit union’s Ending Hunger in Maine campaign, which assists local communities and food pantries.

ELGA Credit Union

ELGA Credit Union sponsored the “Rock the Lot 2022,” a free downtown concert. The music event took place on May 13th at the Flint Flat Lot. The event was filled with food trucks and performances by the Jerry Ross Band and others.

Armco Credit Union

Armco Credit Union made a $1,000 donation to Quality EMS to help with the purchase of a new ambulance.  Quality EMS is a local group that provides emergency medical services, non-emergency medical transport, and other community services. On June 2nd they will be hosting first-aid and CPR training at the Armco Credit Union.
