Credit Unions Elevating the Community

It’s Thursday, and that means we are here to share this week’s #HumanitarianHighlight, featuring credit unions that are elevating the community with charitable donations and humanitarian actions. For almost forty years, we have enjoyed being involved in the credit union movement, in large part because of how well credit unions treat their members and help improve their communities.

Elevations Credit Union

Colorado has been ravaged by the effects of the Marshall Fire, but in spite of all the devastation, it has helped bring the community together. Elevations Credit Union, through its charitable arm Elevations Foundation, has been able to raise nearly $1.2 million through donations from credit union members, business partners, and others in the community. Working together with the Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services, 100% of these funds will go to victims of the Marshall Fire.

MSU Federal Credit Union

MSU FCU is working with the American Red Cross and Michigan State University to host a blood drive in January. If you have not heard, the Red Cross is currently facing a very dangerously low supply of blood, indicating a national blood crisis. Be sure to donate blood today, and if your credit union is hosting a blood drive now or in the future – let us know!! Hit us up on social media and notify us, and we’ll be sure to retweet or share those messages!

America First Credit Union

Have you heard of #ZariyaSquad? America First CU and other local businesses have helped sponsor the Derby family as it handles their toddler’s fight with the rare cancer of Hepatoblastoma. This 18-month-old toddler and family are still seeking assistance from anyone willing to donate to their GoFundMe. Way to go FOX5, America First, and the other sponsors who have assisted this family during such a tumultuous time.

Reliant Credit Union

Almost every business requires shoes, and yet not every child can get a pair of reliable sneakers. Thankfully for many students in Sodus, New York, there is Reliant Credit Union, which has donated 149 sneakers so far to students at two schools in the community. These donations are part of a community effort called “Feet Forward,” and in partnership with local schools and organizations, they can help students get the shoes they need. This is the 5th year for this charity, and we hope it is just the beginning.

Firstmark Credit Union

Teachers shape and prepare young minds for the future. In appreciation, Firstmark and KSAT 12 are honoring teachers with their “Educator of the Month” contest. They are awarding $500 gift cards and a trophy to a lucky and deserving teacher each month.

Genisys Credit Union

Michigan has long had the pleasure of claiming Genisys as a reliable credit union in its state. For over 85 years, Genisys Credit Union has helped build community, while serving the many members who have joined their credit union over the years. This is what led to Corp! Magazine naming them an honoree in the large business category for 2021 Best of MichBusiness Awards, which “recognizes those companies and individuals that make Michigan a top-notch place to do business.” We want to congratulate Genisys CU on the award, and thank you for all the great work you have done for the community!

Oak Tree Business Systems, Inc.

From helping out those who lost everything in the Marshall Fire, to kids who need a new pair of kicks – we are so proud of the hard work and dedication of these credit unions!
