Humanitarian Highlight 2.3.22

Giving in the Rain

This week’s #HumanitarianHighlight is on credit unions that are ‘Giving in the Rain’. Or, in other words, aiding their community with charitable acts! Let’s take a look at a few credit unions that are making the best out of bad times.

United Trades Federal Credit Union

United Trades Federal Credit Union, as part of its annual Pay It Forward campaign, donated more than $19,000 to charity. The credit union gave every employee $20 to donate to an individual or nonprofit of their choice, and many of the employees chose to pool together their funds to make a sizeable donation. Some of the chosen nonprofits are Toys for Tots, CASA Children, Ronald McDonald House, Veterans Center, Pays of Hope, and Benton Harbor Water Crisis.

NorState Federal Credit Union

NorState Federal Credit Union raised over $5,500 for local food pantries. This type of donation is made every year to a local charity, and the money is raised through user fees in the daily use of the coin sorter machines located in the credit union’s branches.

Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union

Members of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union raised nearly $175,000 for selected hospitals in Poland and for Polish children in need in the United States. The money was raised through the annual “Children’s Holiday Smile” campaign, during which PSFCU members are encouraged to make contributions. Over 7,700 contributions were made and the resulting total will be split between the Salvatorian Hospice Association, Swietlikowo Silesian Hospice for Children Foundation, Divine Providence Hospice of Orionine Fathers, and the Children’s Smile Foundation.

Service Credit Union

In partnership with the Robert Irvine Foundation, Service Credit Union hosted the Service CU Impact Foundation Golf Charity Classic event, which raised nearly $350,000. The money will support local and national organizations that provide healthcare and other needs to Veterans and their families.

Canvas Credit Union

Canvas Credit Union has joined with several other local organizations and community members to help with relief for the Boulder County Wildfire. Donations and initiatives for the area are active, and Canvas Credit Union has pledged a $200,000 match with donations made to American Red Cross.

TBA Credit Union

TBA Credit Union donated $9,000 to support Traverse City Area Public Schools. Portions of the donation will support the Learning, Enrichment, and Athletic Program (LEAP), which was established to increase education and recreational opportunities for after-school hours. The rest of the funds will purchase essential supplies such as dry erase markers and water bottles, and will also go toward ‘professional development support’.

California Credit Union

California Credit Union offers generous scholarships through its Student Scholarship Program, which annually offers $20,000 in total scholarships in recognition of Southern California students. The credit union has started advising students to apply to the 2022 version of its program, which is available to students who maintain a grade point average of 3.0 and are transferring to a four-year university in the area. Recipients of scholarships will be announced on May 2, 2022.

Oak Tree Business Systems, Inc.
