Humanitarian Highlight 11.18.21

This week’s #HumanitarianHighlight is on credit unions giving generously. Credit unions are always looking for ways to give generously to the communities they serve, so let’s look at some credit unions that are leading by example.

Westmark Credit Union

Westmark Credit Union donated $250,000 to help support the dream of Highland High School baseball coach Christian Colonel to build a baseball field for the school. This donation aims to be the foundation of the five-year ambition to build the field and will go toward modifying the land and constructing stands.

OE Federal Credit Union

This credit union used a combination of employee and member donations to contribute bags of food, treats, toys and other essential supplies to the Elko Animal Shelter. The donation was done as part of an OE Federal Credit Union Elko branch tradition to enact positive change during Columbus Day.

Advantage Plus Federal Credit Union

Advantage Plus Federal Credit Union donated a check for $80,000 to the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District 25. The donation was made to support high school athletic programs as part of a sponsorship opportunity and will allow the district to focus on improving athletic facilities and team support.

Neches Federal Credit Union

This credit union thought outside the box to support the Wounded Warriors Family Support group. Neches Federal Credit Union created a virtual 5k event to raise money for the nonprofit and ended up raising $3,500 thanks to the efforts of participating employees and members.

Media City Credit Union

Media City Credit Union started its first-ever Winter Clothing Drive this week. The drive aims to collect warm, clean and new clothing (such as men’s t-shirts or children’s socks) which will be distributed to local shelters ahead of the upcoming colder months.

UNCLE Credit Union

This credit union donated $10,000 to the Livermore Lab Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to fund education programs, research, and fellowships at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. UNCLE Credit Union supported the foundation due to its close ties to the community of the California Radiation Laboratory, which was the predecessor to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Oak Tree Business Systems, Inc.

Anyone paying attention to credit unions knows that these examples are only the most recent! Credit unions are always giving generously, and we’re always happy to put the spotlight on their efforts.
