Humanitarian Highlight 9.16.21

This week’s #HumanitarianHighlight is on CUs celebrating education. Here are a few examples of credit unions doing their best to support the efforts of community members attending all levels of education.

Firelands Federal Credit Union

This credit union donated $3,000 to schools and organizations in the area that are hosting school supply collection events. Items such as books, backpacks, and more were distributed to children as a result of the donation. The money was split into separate Monetary donations of $500 were also donated directly to specific organizations.

Eastman Credit Union

Eastman Credit Union donated $25,000 in honor of Fielding Rolston, a former ECU chairman who passed away in 2019. He was a well-known volunteer and charitable member whose contributions to the area inspired the donation. The donation went to the Rotary Club of Kingsport Foundation in the interest of helping community non-profit organizations in the Tennessee area.

Elevation Credit Union

For the fifth year in a row, Elevation Credit Union sponsored the CU Boulder Student Athletics (CU Athletics). This sponsorship puts Elevation Credit Union as the exclusive credit union of the athletics organization. The credit union’s members now have the opportunity to support student athletic scholarships through their purchases. In 2020, Elevations Credit Union donated over $175,000 in scholarship donations to CU Boulder students through a variety of initiatives.

Freedom Credit Union

This credit union donated $2,700 to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. The organization benefits vulnerable individuals within Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Herkshire countries within Massachusetts. The money will be used alongside donations to provide food to area residents.

Altra Federal Credit Union

Altra Federal Credit Union has announced a new initiative that aims to award nonprofit organizations awards from a $90,000 pool, as well as the potential to win a grand prize of $10,000 if the non-profit wins a separate Best Life Community Award (BCLA). Credit union members can nominate nonprofit organizations for certain predetermined categories.

Naveo Credit Union

The Naveo Credit Union Scholarship Committee gave three local students a scholarship of $1,500 at the Somerville branch. Scholarships were granted based on financial need, education performance, and local involvement. The total of $4,500 in awarded scholarships is part of an ongoing commitment by Naveo Credit Union to support education and has been in place since the 1980s.
