How Credit Unions Mobilize for Local Impact
HH 10.22.26
From building economic self-sufficiency and funding first responders to equipping local food pantries and comforting families in pediatric care, credit unions continue to demonstrate what it means to put people before profits. In this edition of our Humanitarian Highlights series, we feature credit unions across the country whose hands-on volunteerism, collaborative spirit, and targeted grantmaking are creating lasting, positive change for the members and neighborhoods they serve.
Truity Federal Credit Union
Putting community compassion into action, Truity Federal Credit Union employees in Bartlesville recently joined forces with the Bartlesville Regional United Way Day of Caring to support Martha’s Task. Dedicated to empowering women toward lasting independence, Martha’s Task offers emergency aid and paid sewing instruction—enabling participants to craft items for their storefront, earn an income, and receive starter kits to launch home-based businesses. Truity team members jumped in to tackle essential maintenance across the property, including sorting dishes, organizing creative supplies, and refining the facility’s landscaping. By pitching in to maintain this crucial community staple, Truity underscores the credit union commitment to uplifting local neighbors and fostering self-sufficiency.
CME Federal Credit Union
Rallying the community for local heroes, CME Federal Credit Union recently hosted its 18th Annual Charity Golf Outing at York Golf Club. Bringing together dedicated sponsors, golfers, staff, and volunteers, the event successfully raised $40,000 to directly support local first responders. This incredible fundraising milestone highlights CME’s ongoing commitment to living out its guiding principle that “Community Means Everything,” ensuring those who protect our neighborhoods receive the backing they deserve.
Rio Grande Credit Union
Championing inclusion and athletic excellence, Rio Grande Credit Union proudly presented Special Olympics New Mexico with a $15,000 contribution representing a full year of dedicated fundraising initiatives. From sponsoring the SONM Summer Games and Golf Tournament to participating in the Albuquerque Isotopes Charity Banner Program and hosting an employee laptop buyback fundraiser, Rio Grande team members rallied behind a mission that brings joy, opportunity, and unity to local athletes, families, and volunteers.
HAPO Community Credit Union
Proving that credit unions share a mission rather than compete over community, teams from HAPO, Gesa, STCU, Numerica, and ICCU joined forces for International Credit Union Day. Working side by side, staff members assembled and delivered over 200 handmade blankets to the Kadlec NICU and Pediatric units, bringing warmth, comfort, and peace of mind to families navigating challenging healthcare journeys during their greatest time of need.
Credit Union of Texas
Fighting hunger and supporting local families, the CUTX Charitable Foundation recently donated $1,000 to help provide essential meals across Hopkins County. Relying entirely on community support, this local nonprofit operates meal kits and monthly free markets for neighbors facing hardship. CUTX’s contribution helps ensure that vulnerable families have access to nutritious food and compassionate care right when they need it most.
Filer Credit Union
Preparing for a bountiful holiday season, Filer Credit Union recently visited the Matthew25:35 Food Pantry to deliver vital support for local Thanksgiving distributions. Team members caught up with pantry volunteers to scope out the logistical preparations required to ensure smooth deliveries of holiday turkeys and meal essentials to families throughout the community. Filer’s ongoing support honors the dedicated work required to keep local tables filled with care.
