Championing Community Success
As communities prepare for a new academic year, credit unions consistently step up through incredible acts of support. From equipping local students with essential back-to-school supplies and funding higher education through generous academic scholarships to partnering with local veteran charity programs, the dedication to community well-being is truly inspiring. In this edition of Humanitarian Highlights, we proudly focus on Championing Community Success, showcasing the powerful ways financial cooperatives make a lasting difference far beyond the traditional branch walls.
Numerica Credit Union
Numerica CU has their Numerica Heroes Fund and recently it invested $42,500 in three organizations in their community for veterans. They donated to Veterans Community Response, Washington State Fallen Heroes Project, and Spokane County Regional Veteran Services’ Stand Down for Veterans event. These charities help support the mental health of our veterans or honor them in other ways. Hooah!
Community Service Credit Union
Many credit unions are getting their members ready for school with scholarships or back to school gear, and Community Service CU has awarded 500 backpacks and hygiene kits to those in need in their community. Consequently, while school supplies grow increasingly expensive each year, education remains vitally important. Therefore, we are especially glad to see so many financial cooperatives championing these programs.
Evergreen Credit Union
Evergreen CU has done their part to help the next generation in their community as they continue to run their Evergreen Credit Union Education Foundation and reward those who need the funding for more education. Every year they select four of their members to be awarded the $2,500 scholarship. We are always grateful to see how many credit unions running these programs. Also, we know that this time of the year is full of such articles so they tend to be the ones we see. DuPont Community Credit Union
DuPont Community CU was there to help Staunton City Schools with their Back-to-School Bash recently. Every year students go back to school and sometimes it is hard for their families to get them all the essentials necessary for the school year. Everything from paper and crayons, to backpacks and socks. Way to go!
Financial Plus Credit Union
Financial Plus CU recently helped Youth Service Bureau’s Operation Apple Tree program. With contributions coming from their Casual Dress Fund and Financial Plus there were 10 local students sponsored for their upcoming school year. The backpacks and essentials will come in handy for the upcoming school year. Another bushel of students ready for the new year. I wonder if they will award the teacher an apple.
Copper Basin Federal Credit Union
Copper Basin FCU ran a successful Skip-A-Pay program to help their community. The funds raised this year went towards backpacks full of school supplies. Copper Basin packed their backpacks with shoes, clothing, and other essentials. They were distributed through Family Connection and the Fannin Children’s Fund to many in their community who are in need. Despite the fact that we have focused on so many back-to-school projects, we wish we could put the highlight on all of them.
