Carne Asada and Credit Union Forms

Carne asada. Just saying this word automatically brings to mind all the delicious sides and toppings that go together to complete the ultimate carne asada experience. Here is a little analogy on carne asada and forms for your credit union, and why quality matters for documents.

So now, let’s take a moment and relive a memory in our lives when we ordered this flavorful meat. Whenever I order anything with carne asada, I never think to ask, “What part of the animal does it come from?” or “What type of meat is this, really?” So what is carne asada? The technical answer is cooked meat, but it is most commonly beef. With the term being so vague, there are no real means of determining quality when ordering. Don’t get me wrong. Carne asada is delicious, but shouldn’t we be more curious to know what goes into making it?

Another generalized term that we need to discuss is forms. What are forms? A definition of a form is “a printed document with blank spaces for information to be inserted.” A form, in other words, is a document. Again, another vague definition. But, without documents, credit unions would have no way of knowing the necessary information required to sign up a new member or to process a loan.

Moreover, the question, “What are forms?” now forces us to open another door for questions such as, “are forms truly undefined?” Or is the undefined content leading the cause in making credit union clients question what they are truly signing up for? Doesn’t it make you wonder about the documents members are filling out to submit their personal information – if they are compliant, accurate, up-to-date, and secure? All these burning questions can be answered when reading more into the document samples and asking your forms representative if there are any questions that need to be asked.

Forms kept within a credit union contain a member’s personal information, so privacy must be high on your credit union forms provider’s radar. When compliance and member security are on the line, you should only trust the experts in the field. To ensure compliance and member security, the content that goes into creating the forms must be (fine dining term) quality.  It is the quality and accuracy of the content that goes into the forms and disclosures that really sets one forms provider apart from another. Here are some indicators to determine if your forms are up to standard:

·         Adherence to both state & federal laws and regulations;

·         Representing & conforming to your ever-changing internal policies and procedures;

·         Working hand-in-hand with the multitude of technology/IT systems in use at your credit union;

·         Providing Data Services so that all your forms are automatically populated with data from your system(s);

·         Respecting UDAAP by making it 100% clear what transaction is taking place, rather than leading with and being overwhelmed primarily by an insurance purchase.

So, when comparing carne asada to forms, they really are more similar than you would think. They are both broad terms used to define something that could be magnificent. But if the quality of the ingredients isn’t up to par, you could be in for a stomachache, or worse… a visit from a compliance examiner.
