We don’t want to forget the great humanitarian deeds of the past, but we wanted to clean up our blog. So this is a consolidation of the mid-2019 Humanitarian Highlights.
September 19, Winners of Humanity
#HumanitarianHighlight day is here, and we can’t wait to share what we have found! So, please sit back, relax, and enjoy our blog! If you know of any credit union that went above and beyond for their community, use #HumanitarianHighlight to be featured on our page, and we will recognize you alongside these winners of humanity.
Connexus Credit Union
A true definition of #CUdifference is doing everything in your power to help those in your community create an everlasting change. Connexus CU created a goal and met it! They were able to donate to 3 shelters (Haven Housing, Avenues for Homeless Youth, and Catholic Charities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis), which donated a total of $15,000 to each shelter.
Ocean Air (at the time: CBC Federal Credit Union)
Determined to help create a difference, CBC FCU beat their volunteer record from the last time they were there. This spectacular CU took the time to help Food Share of Ventura County with any last-minute tasks! Make sure you all keep a lookout for their next donation opportunity during December!
“Since 1978, Food Share has been feeding the hungry in Ventura County. It all began when eight friends banded together to provide food to those in need under a bridge in Ventura, CA. The early philanthropic movement started in a family garage, quickly outgrew a donated fire station in Saticoy, and now operates in Oxnard, CA, with two warehouses with a combined 36,000 square feet. Today, staff and volunteers distribute more than 13 million pounds of food, or nearly 12 million meals annually, through its 190 pantry and program partners. As Ventura County’s regional food bank, Food Share provides food for over 75,000 hungry friends and neighbors monthly. Food Share is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief network of food banks, as well as the California Association of Food Banks. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Food Share is a member of the Feeding America network, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.” Food Share of Ventura County

WesTex Federal Credit Union
Learning that some children go home without the essentials, WesTex FCU didn’t have the heart to push this issue aside. Thinking about the future generation, the WesTex FCU team came together to help replenish the Pirate Pantry at Lubbock-Cooper East Elementary School.
“The Pantry’s ultimate goal is to help each child with the best possible chance to succeed. Charnese Perez is in charge of the program, which serves all eight campuses within the Lubbock-Cooper school district. Donations from community members are accepted, so the next time you are at the grocery store, Costco, or Sam’s, pick up an extra item or two and take it by the Pirate Pantry.”
Greater Iowa Credit Union

Nothing better than joining together to help create a #CUmovement. GCS CU’s employees helped raise $1,031 to go towards The BackStoppers.
“The BackStoppers support families of fallen heroes by paying off all debt, providing health and dental insurance, reimbursing for out-of-pocket medical expenses, and assisting with tuition and education costs from daycare through university.
The BackStoppers supports approximately 80 families with 65 dependent children. They have supported more than 160 families since 1959 and provide roughly $1.5 million in assistance annually.” The BackStoppers, Inc.
