I look around the room and stare at each one of my employees going on and on about what new trends we should be implementing in the company. Everything that my employees are saying is basically going in one ear and out the other because they obviously don’t know how to run a business; I DO. I nod and agree with what they say so that I can get on with the rest of my day. They don’t know better. I do.
How familiar does this sound to any of you? I’ll bet you that we have all had a boss in our lives who never followed through on suggestions or gave an employee a chance to suggest an idea. Well, we are here to tell you that times have changed, and there are new trends/ideas going on every so often that people are more drawn to.
Listening is the basic fundamental of succeeding in life, whether it relates to work, family, or other relationships; we can’t go a day without listening to some form of sound. Now, let’s dig deeper into why this trait is such a big part in making you and your company successful.
Imagine you are a manager at a business and you work across the street from a new shop that just opened up. You see the lines forming, people in a rush to get into the store, and many of their employees are standing outside in clean attire talking to everyone in line. You might think, how did they get such a large following so fast? The answer to this is listening to what the customers want. Whether it be a small town shop or a large corporate firm, making sure that management listens to suggestions on how to perfect projects can lead to big success. We, as managers or any employees, need to be open to listening to any new ideas, tactics, or criticism because it’s a way for us to perfect the process.
I know when the younger generation works with the staff that has more experience than they do, a lot of the ideas and suggestions get thrown out the window. Something that is commonly said is, “Well, we have done it this way for years and don’t think we should change our tactic.” WRONG! Being able to open your mind to new ideas is a great way to get a new following. Yes, the younger generation isn’t as experienced, BUT they are more experienced in knowing what types of apps or tools can be used to grasp more attention. I know that upper-level management can be very busy, but listening to your employees on how to make situations and projects better is a great thing that will reap great rewards in the long run. There are many directions to take when working on projects, so learning to take notes from others around can help create a better work balance for all.
Now, let’s look at credit unions. Working at a credit union is awesome, and it comes with a lot of exciting work experiences. The best part is waking up each and every day (thankfully) and heading into the office with a fresh mind and a fresh board of ideas to tackle. Here at Oak Tree, we want to make sure that each one of our members is taken care of and heard! We love listening to you and answering any questions you may have about our services.
